God Will Give You Over To Your Own Ways | Jack Hakimian

Warning: Being "Given Over" to One's Own Ways

These passages describe a state where, after persistent rejection of truth, God allows a person to experience the full weight and direction of their own choices.

Romans 1:24, 26, 28

"Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity... Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts... Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so he gave them over to a depraved mind."

Psalm 81:11–12

"But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices."

Hosea 4:17

"Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone!" (This suggests a terrifying moment where God stops His corrective pursuit and allows the person to remain in their chosen idolatry.)

Promise: God’s Faithfulness to Those Who Trust Him
For those who remain in a posture of trust and dependence, the Bible promises a presence that is constant, regardless of the circumstances.

Hebrews 13:5

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'"

Deuteronomy 31:8

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Lamentations 3:22–23

"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

The contrast here is striking: the "giving over" is a response to a heart that says "leave me alone," while the "never forsaking" is a response to the heart that says "I need You."
